Cartoon Network | Animated TV Bumper

Overview

This project involved conceptualizing and animating a short-form television bumper inspired by the vibrant identity of Cartoon Network. The challenge was to maintain brand consistency while introducing an original creative twist.

Through dynamic transitions, expressive typography, and rhythmic pacing, I developed a high-energy motion piece that reflects Cartoon Network’s iconic, youthful tone. The animation balances bold colour blocking with character-inspired movement, reinforcing brand recognition while showcasing my motion design skills.

Role

Motion Designer, Storyboard Artist, Animator

The Process

1. Research & Inspiration

I began by analyzing existing Cartoon Network bumpers to understand pacing, colour usage, typography, and motion styles commonly used to engage younger audiences. This research informed decisions around timing, simplicity of form, and exaggerated motion to ensure the bumper felt on-brand and age-appropriate.

2. Visual Reference & Style Direction

Reference imagery and motion clips were collected to guide the overall look and feel of the bumper. The focus was on bold colour palettes, playful shapes, and high-energy transitions that align with Cartoon Network’s visual language while allowing room for experimentation.

3. Modelling & Animation

The core visual elements, the stacking blocks, were modelled in Cinema 4D and animated to feel bouncy, expressive, and full of personality. Motion principles such as squash and stretch, easing, and anticipation were used to enhance the sense of play and movement.

4. Compositing & Final Assembly

All elements were brought into After Effects, where timing, layering, and transitions were refined. This stage focused on polishing the animation, tightening pacing, and ensuring the final bumper felt cohesive, engaging, and broadcast-ready.

Impact & Outcomes

• Strengthened motion graphics and animation skills
• Demonstrated understanding of branded entertainment design
• Built confidence in translating static design into motion

The final bumper delivered a short, high-energy animation that aligned with Cartoon Network’s playful brand identity while showcasing strong 3D and motion design fundamentals. The project highlights my ability to translate brand guidelines into expressive motion, balance creativity with structure, and execute a polished animation across multiple tools.
